My dutch oven is deep, has a rounded lid, and does not have legs, which makes it great for use on a stove. However, cooking with charcoal or on a fire caused me to make some modifications. First, I made a small stand which serves as legs and allows for charcoal or fire coals underneath. Secondly, I made two rings to hold the charcoals on my curves lid. In this process I stumbled upon a very cool lid holder, so I made that too.
I have a scrap steel pile because I love welding, so I fabricated these items, without a lot of effort. Here they are in use.
I like my stand better than legs, my rings work fabulously and are simple but effective. The rebar lid lift is very handy for rotating or peeking under the lid, and the charcoals stay put. Now my dutch oven is very versatile. I can still use it on a stove and with my modifications it works great with charcoal.
